Creativity in MY Classroom

Today is Day 2 of Summer session courses at Meredith and I've been tasked with my 2nd blogging assignment.  This week we're learning about not only the importance of legal and ethical use of technology in the classroom, but also how to build a website.  This is by far one of the most exciting aspects of this course because I love the use of technology in the classroom AND building a website is an awesome way of conveying information to the students as well as the parents.

I'd like to think of myself as a technologically savvy teacher, but I've been interested in creating a website for my students for quite some time now.  I've tried creating the free website on Yahoo, but I didn't like it because I felt limited in what I could do with it for free.  It's been said that the best things in life are free, however, I paying a little money doesn't hurt either.

With this newly acquired knowledge of building and creating a website, I'll be able to be even more accessible to my students in the sense that information will be readily available to them at any time.  Parents will be informed of changes, assignments, and activities, and my students will have access to links to their assignments on my blog and be able to post their responses and assignments to the blog.  The blog will be linked to the class website, so if a student misses class due to illness they'll still be able to get the assignment, the lesson, and submit the classwork or homework.

I'm very excited about using technology in the classroom.  It is a very useful tool and it's important to be able to keep up with the changing world because students are more computer savvy than ever before.  I welcome the challenge and the opportunity to keep up with my students and offer them more than they would ever expect, and be a glowing example of a "cool teacher".

Teaching

The path to becoming a teacher has also been a path of self discovery.  I've always believed that I could be a positive role model to young people without actually being a teacher in the classroom, however, it was through teaching my oldest son a long division problem that I could really enjoy teaching others.  I LOVE helping people and am extremely excited about being in the classroom instructing children, but for now I'm in the classroom learning how to effective teach today's youth.

I have lots of reading to do and will continue this pathway of self discovery all while keeping you posted on my progress.

Until next time...
